On Saturday June 18, 2022, the Reformed Presbyterian Home hosted a Founder’s Day Open House. Residents, friends, family, and staff celebrated 125-years of service to the community.
Long ago are the days of visitors arriving to the facility in a horse and buggy. Nor do we have chickens or a resident cow providing our breakfast. But what has remained consistent after 125-years is that RP Home supports the physical, spiritual, social, and emotional well-being of each member of our community.
A committee of board members, staff, and volunteers ensured the day was full of local entertainment, refreshments, and celebration. Mindy Cable, retired RP Home Activity Director, performed on the piano with vocal accompaniment by Ed Verbeke. In addition, Beverly Taylor (retired RP Home employee) and Raymont Conner (Director of Life Enrichment) and duo artists Katie and Sean Donaldson shared their vocal talents.
Allegheny County Council Representative, Olivia Bennett, presented a Proclamation on behalf of Allegheny County. Faith Martin, retired RP Home Executive Director, presented a celebration proclamation provided by the City of Pittsburgh.
Children were entertained with games and crafts, including a balloon artist. The North Hills Reformed Presbyterian Choir and Hope Reformed Presbyterian Choir performed in the Chapel.
What a special event to have retired employees, board members and local Reformed Presbyterian Churches participate in this celebration. Louise Copeland (Board Member) and Nancy Smith performed songs from the Victorian era – capturing times of RP Home from long ago.
Pictures, newsletters, and mementos were displayed in the library for everyone to enjoy. In addition, Geneva College’s Gold Spire Creative Student Group produced a video (https://youtu.be/lBPbp55YUiE) sharing the history and mission of the Reformed Presbyterian Home.
RP Home has been serving seniors of the RP Church and Northside Community by providing mixed income housing, personal care, short-term rehab, and long-term care. We look forward to continuing with our mission -supporting seniors.
