We kick started our holiday season by celebrating #GivingTuesday. Every year organizations celebrate this global day of giving. Around the world nonprofits, schools, faith-based organizations and other businesses participate in this day. This year, residents and staff at the Reformed Presbyterian Home participated in #GivingTuesday to demonstrate their generosity. We did not let the events of 2020 stop our commitment to our community.
First, Residents and staff sent messages and prayers to 75 military persons who are currently serving our country. The staff in the Life Enrichment Department organized this giving event. We filled Christmas cards with love and encouragement and sent them to our troops.
Next, the residents prepared 100 Christmas greetings for our neighbors across the street in the Perrysville Plaza Senior Apartments. The residents gave each neighbor a bag of microwave popcorn and a special note to enjoy at Movie Night.
The giving doesn’t stop there! Our residents have enjoyed celebrating the holidays and sharing other special events with the children from the daycare next door. Obviously this year has prevented us from these celebrations but our residents didn’t forget our friends! Christmas wishes paired with delicious candy canes were delivered to the children.
David Devine, Director of Dining Services, and Kelly Rose, Director of McKee Place Life Enrichment, organized a lunch where proceeds would benefit the Chow Wagon Pet Food Bank. Chow Wagon Pet Food Bank provides pet food to hundreds of financially struggling families each month. The staff donated various pet food and care items in exchange for a free lunch.
Our residents continue to be busy like Santa’s elves! We couldn’t forget about the wonderful people who volunteer at RP Home. Unfortunately we haven’t been able to see our volunteers since March but the resident’s wanted to make sure they schedule visits in 2021. Residents wrapped personalized pocket calendars and included Christmas wishes.
We hope you found a way to be generous for #GivingTuesday. We thank our staff, residents and family who demonstrated their generosity by donating to the Reformed Presbyterian Home!
